Focus on The Levin Center
by Emily Raij
Is your child struggling in school? That is the only question parents need to answer before Dr. Juliana Bloom, pediatric neuropsychologist with The Levin Center in Maitland, can start providing the help families need to move forward.
The Levin Center, housed within Shayna’s Village at The Heller Family Grove on Shalom Orlando’s campus, is a nonprofit organization offering psychological services for children and adolescents – including neuropsychological assessment, therapy, giftedness testing, consultations, and educational services.
“If your child is struggling academically, developmentally, socially, or emotionally,” says Dr. Bloom, “it’s important to get to the root cause of why.”
With increased diagnosis rates of mental health issues, learning difficulties, and developmental disabilities among kids, a neuropsychological assessment can help identify common conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and anxiety.
Dr. Bloom is also experienced in neurological and medical conditions such as epilepsy and concussions. Sometimes a shorter evaluation focusing on behavioral or emotional concerns will provide answers. Other times, more thorough testing is needed so that a plan can be created along with the child’s school to maximize their potential.
“I can give parents the full picture. I work for the child,” says Dr. Bloom. “The child is my client – nobody else – and there’s real value in that. I’m going to do what’s in the best interest of the child.”
Dr. Bloom works independently and is not tied to specific schools or limited to insurance, but she can provide families with a superbill (a detailed receipt) that they can use to get out-of-network reimbursement. To take advantage of her services, families do not need to be members of The Roth Family JCC or Shayna’s Village at The Heller Family Grove. Children also do not need to be students in the Richard S. Adler Early Childhood Learning Center or Gotlib Jewish Academy, although The Levin Center’s convenient location allows families to obtain testing and therapies all in one place, saving them time and the hassle of traveling to multiple offices.
“The evaluations are very individual and child-centered,” says Dr. Bloom. “I really strive to make it a pleasant experience for the child. It’s important to me to listen to the parents and make sure they feel empowered with the results to move forward.”
