Focus on Family Home Care of Central Florida

by Emily Raij

Family Home Care of Central Florida has been in business for two years, but the real-life experience president Jarod Carter offers clients is immeasurable.

When he was in college, Jarod became his grandmother’s caregiver, rearranging his entire class schedule and staying with her at night. Like many families in similar situations, he had to figure things out on the fly.

“What I went through made me realize there are other families dealing with the same thing every day,” says Jarod.

With a background in insurance, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a desire to start a company that focused on quality over quantity, Jarod founded Family Home Care of Central Florida and built its team to include medical experience that other home-care agencies lacked.

“A lot of home-care agencies don’t have full-time RNs; instead, they hire LPNs to save money,” says Jarod. “Our team includes Cheri Wells, BSN, RN with 43 years of experience. She was the Clinical Research Director of the AdventHealth Neuroscience Institute. That allows us to provide a resource to our clients they won’t get with any other home-care agency.”

Family Home Care offers general senior care and also focuses heavily on neurological care for patients dealing with Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, and strokes. The company is licensed in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Brevard counties.

“Cheri has worked with so many of the physicians our clients see regularly,” Jarod says. “That allows us to advocate for clients because she can talk to physicians and tell them what she’s seeing.”

Because of his insurance expertise, Jarod can also advocate for families as they file claims and navigate their coverage. In addition, Family Home Care works hard to find the right caregiver for every client.

“We do what we call caregiver matching,” says Jarod. “We want to treat clients like they’re our family. We want our caregivers to know what your loved one’s schedule is, what they want, and what activities they enjoy.”

The careful caregiver matching is just one reason why Family Home Care is recommended by The Jewish Pavilion, local assisted-living facilities, and   hospital systems.

When Lisa Bachman of Orlando needed care after a surgery, Family Home Care was her choice.

“They provided me with excellent care through the initial stage of my recovery,” Lisa says. “My husband was concerned about leaving me home alone, and this team came to the rescue. I was worried about having someone here, but they quickly eased my fears. They came to the hospital to coordinate with the nurses, so they knew what I needed. Each person who came was personable and very helpful.”
