Every Painting Has a Story
By Jill-Duff Hoppes
Congratulations to artist Vera Gubnitskaia on her first solo exhibition of artwork, which is currently on display in Winter Park.
Titled Interpretations: The Art of Vera Gubnitskaia, the show can be seen through December at the University Club of Winter Park at 841 North Park Avenue. Vera’s body of work includes paintings, drawings, and sculpture.
A native of Russia, Vera is a retired librarian who dove into a second career as an artist a few years ago. She immigrated to the United States in 1990, right after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and settled in Central Florida. Vera has studied locally at Crealdé School of Art in Winter Park where she is now a studio artist.
Over the past few years, Vera has participated in Crealdé group art shows, both on and off its main campus. The Winter Park resident is also a member of the Central Florida Watercolor Society and exhibits her work with that group, too. In November, Vera gave an artist’s talk at the University Club about the pieces in her solo exhibition.

“Every painting has a story, and then a story behind a story, like endless reflections in a mirror,” explains Vera, who is also a writer and freelance editor.
The curated pieces in Vera’s solo show are intended to immerse the viewer in her interpretations of fantasy, poetry, literature, music, and past and present experiences.
